ADHD Exam Support
for Junior & Leaving Cert Students

ADHD Support Program for Junior & Leaving Cert Students

Preparing for the Junior or Leaving Cert can feel overwhelming for students with ADHD. There is pressure from school, expectations from home, and a constant sense that there is “too much to do and not enough time”.

This support is designed to help students plan, prioritise, and prepare in an ADHD-friendly way, without trying to do everything at once.
The focus is on clarity, structure, and realistic use of time, so students can reduce overwhelm and approach exams more steadily.

Support is available in different formats, depending on what suits the student best at this stage.

ADHD-Friendly Support Options

Individual Exam Support (1:1)

Personalised, one-to-one ADHD exam support, tailored to the student’s needs, pace, and pressures.

Structured small-group support with fixed dates, combining planning and weekly sessions to reduce overwhelm.

Group Exam Support Program (Cohorts)

Small, structured group program for Junior and Leaving Cert students, running in fixed cohorts with set start and end dates.

Each programme includes:

  • 75-min group planning session, to clarify priorities, set realistic goals, and create a manageable approach to exam preparation.

  • followed by 6 x 30-min weekly group support sessions, focused on maintaining structure, reviewing what’s working, and adjusting plans without judgement.

  • same day and time each week

  • the same students throughout

The group format provides structure, reassurance, and shared understanding, while still allowing each student to work on their own subjects and priorities.

Group program is ideal for students who:

  • benefit from external structure and routine

  • feel reassured knowing they’re not alone

  • need help staying focused and realistic over time

Different cohorts run at different points in the exam cycle (e.g. March-April or April–May), depending on when students join.

Self-Guided Exam Planning Workbook

This self-guided workbook is designed to help ADHD and neurodivergent students feel calmer, clearer, and more in control during exam preparation.

Instead of pushing harder or trying to “do more”, this workbook supports students to make realistic, nervous-system-friendly decisions about what actually deserves their energy during exam term.

It guides students step by step through:

  • understanding and sorting exam pressure

  • prioritising subjects without overwhelm or guilt

  • deciding what really matters right now

  • planning short, realistic study windows that are possible to start and finish

  • building consistency without burnout or shutdown

Suitable for digital or printed use.

Exam Support Drop-In Group

Additional 30-minute group support sessions, available weekly

This group is designed as a support safety-net, not a full program. Students can attend individual sessions as needed to:

  • reset plans

  • get unstuck

  • manage stress or pressure

  • work quietly alongside others (body-doubling)

There is no expectation to attend every week.

Sessions are booked individually, and students choose the dates that suit them.

The drop-in weekly support groups are primarily intended for students already receiving support (1: 1, Group Program, Self-guided) and focuses on regulation, clarity, and steady progress rather than content or revision.

Drop-in sessions will be available from March 11.
